Care and Use Tips for Your Higonokami Knife

Care and maintenance

To ensure your Higonokami knife remains in top condition, follow these essential care tips:

  1. Clean and Dry: After each use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt, moisture, or residue. Thoroughly dry the blade to prevent rust.
  2. Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Use gentle cleaners and avoid abrasive materials that could damage the blade.
  3. Sharpen Regularly: Maintain the blade's sharpness using our whetstone or honing rod. Hold the knife at a 20-degree angle and sharpen both sides evenly.
  4. Store Properly: Keep your knife in a cool, dry place away from moisture and humidity to prevent corrosion.
  5. Handle Maintenance: If your knife has a wooden handle, ensure it is dry to prevent warping. For brass handles, occasional polishing can maintain its appearance.

How do I open and close a Higonokami knife correctly?

To open the knife, hold the handle and use your thumb to push the lever (chikiri) to unfold the blade. To close it, carefully fold the blade back into the handle, ensuring your fingers are clear of the blade's path.
